Fake Id: Concerns about identity theft increase after security breaches

May 12, 2006

The Ohio University informed alumni and people who made donations to assume that their identities were stolen – but they haven’t cautioned students the same way.

There were security breaches that were detected, although the University is not sure that anyone’s identity was actually stolen.  Bill Sams, the associate information technology manager said that the University cannot tell exactly what information was transferred.

“what were trying to do is protect students from identity theft,” said Sams.

The students were told to visit the University’s web site or to call a University hotline to protect against identity theft.
